The Ingredients That are Infused into my Coconut Oil to Transform Hair

The ingredients I use in my coconut oil are all natural, some of them are probably found in your kitchen. Some you might have to look up or order though! I infuse these ingredients with coconut oil to maximize their benefits. Below, I’m including a list of these powerful ingredients and the reasons why they work so well: curry leaves, cloves, fenugreek, flaxseeds, hibiscus flower, onion and rosemary. Each of these ingredients contributes to healthier, stronger hair by nourishing the scalp, promoting hair growth, and preventing hair fall.

Coconut Oil – How to Grow, Repair, Restore, and Smooth your Locks!

Coconut oil is the cornerstone and base of my hair restoration oil. This is what I start off with! Known for its deep conditioning and moisturizing properties, it penetrates the hair follicle to reduce protein loss, making hair stronger and shinier. That’s really important because your hair is made up of a protein called keratin – (we have all heard of this!) keratin is produced by the hair follicles in your scalp. So, your scalp is getting is essentially getting a “keratin treatment” in the form of a coconut oil hair treatment with additional ingredients infused into it! Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, which helps to bind the protein in hair, protecting the roots and preventing breakage. It’s an excellent base oil that enhances the effectiveness of the other ingredients.

Curry Leaves – The Secret South Asian Ingredient For Hair!

Curry leaves are packed with antioxidants and amino acids that help strengthen hair follicles and moisturize the scalp. So we love curry but not just for the actual curry! We want the leaves for our hair! These leaves are also rich in beta-carotene and proteins, which reduce hair loss and boost hair growth. Curry leaves are great because they will act as a vacuum for your scalp by cleaning up your dead hair follicles, it’s a win-win! In India, curry leaves have been used in haircare routines for their scalp nourishment and hair health for centuries.

Cloves – Promotes Hair Growth and Prevents Hair Thinning.

Cloves are known for their ability to improve blood circulation in the scalp, which promotes hair growth. They contain high levels of antioxidants and nutrients that add strength to hair, preventing breakage and thinning. But what you really need to know about Cloves is that they contain Eugenol, which helps your help fight oxidative stress which is great! Eugenol in cloves may also improve blood circulation to the scalp, promoting hair follicle activity and subsequent hair growth. We want to add these for sure!

Fenugreek – AKA Methi – South Asian staple for Conditioning and Repairing your Hair.

Fenugreek seeds or Methi as its referred to for South Asians are a powerhouse of nutrients beneficial for hair! It’s been used in our hair oil since the beginning of time. Fenugreek seeds contain nicotinic acid and proteins, specifically lecithin which help to stimulate hair follicles, promote hair growth, stimulates cell repair and reverses damage to hair follicles. Fenugreek also combats dandruff and conditions the hair, leaving it smooth and shiny. The lecithin in fenugreek seeds adds moisture and strengthens the hair shafts.

Flaxseeds – Another Superfood! They have Lignans which acts like Estrogen and is great for Hair Growth!

Flaxseeds and Flaxseed powder are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for maintaining a healthy scalp and promoting hair growth. A healthy scalp is incredibly important for strong and healthy hair! These seeds help reduce inflammation and provide nourishment to the hair follicles, making hair stronger and less prone to damage. Flaxseeds also have Lignans in in which help improve hair texture and reduce breakage. Lignans are a type of phytoestrogen (a plant compound that acts similarly to estrogen) in flaxseed. So basically, by putting in Flaxseeds in your diet, or your hair oil it’s a natural ingredient that acts like estrogen! Quick refresher – Estrogen is great for women for hair, skin, and nails and it’s an essential hormone that depletes naturally as we age. For any of the men here making this oil – I promise there will no estrogen (female) related issues with putting it on your scalp!

Hibiscus Flower – Natural Abilities to Prevent Hair Loss and Promote Growth!

Hibiscus flowers aren’t just pretty to look at! They’re known for their ability to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth. They contain natural amino acids that nourish the hair, strengthen the roots, and keep the locks lustrous and healthy. Hibiscus is also a natural conditioner that adds volume and shine to the hair. My neighbor very kindly gives me his when he has fresh Hibiscus flowers, but when I don’t have that as an option, I’ll easily substitute it with Hibiscus Flower Powder.

Shallots (Onion) – High in Sulfur – Promotes Collagen Production – Great for Growth! Read about the Anagen Phase!

Shallots and Onions are high in sulfur which promote hair growth, but Shallots have the most amount of sulfur. Sulfur promotes collagen production and encourages hair growth by keeping your hair in the growth phase also called the Anagen Phase. When I can and I remember to grab them from the grocery store, I’ll use shallots versus an onion for sure! The antibacterial properties of sulfur help fight scalp infections, and their antioxidants reverse the effects of premature greying, that’s just an added benefit. Let’s address the issue you are probably wondering about. Of course there is an odor! No pain, no gain right! I haven’t yet found a way to avoid this completely, but I will tell you that once you wash out the oil – there’s no residue of the “oniony” smell. I’d wear a hair cap/hair bonnet that you’re not worried about staining because that will happen, and let the magic happen! (If it is super bothersome, avoid this ingredient – you’re getting plenty of active ingredients with everything else!)

Aloe Vera – Powerful Plant with Multiple Vitamins to Prevent Hair loss!

Aloe vera is a powerful natural ingredient for hair health. The gel from aloe vera contains vitamins A, C, and E, which promote healthy cell growth and shiny hair. It also has vitamin B12 and folic acid, which help prevent hair loss. To be honest, I just order a bottle online and squeeze a couple of tablespoons into my oil base as its heating up! I wish I had the time to scape it out of the actual plant, but life as a healthcare worker with a 10- and 11-year-old life is just hectic sometimes! There are those who will claim that every ingredient has to be natural, but you can only do what you can do! So, if you can’t get the plant, or you don’t have it – buy the gel or powder. It did work for me, and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for you! The gel or powder version of Aloe vera’s antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties will soothe the scalp, reduce dandruff, and maintain a healthy pH balance.

Conclusion: Embrace the Wisdom of Traditional Haircare

When I started to incorporate natural ingredients like coconut oil, curry leaves, cloves, fenugreek, flaxseeds, hibiscus flowers, onion, and aloe vera into my haircare routine, I started noticing a difference in my hair health. This hair restoration oil, based on my grandmother’s timeless recipe, has transformed my hair by reducing hair fall, enhancing thickness, and promoting overall hair growth. My 10-year-old daughter claimed a few months ago that my hair grew from “this much to this much!” (Visualize that she has her hands spread apart by about 10 inches!). Although it was definitely not ten inches, (that would be wishful thinking) children speak only the truth and I do think there has been some length! I hope sharing this journey and recipe will help you achieve similar results and a healthier scalp for sure. Embrace these natural remedies and experience the benefits of healthier, stronger, hair and a more nourished scalp!
